Pre-Conference Workshops - March 5
Thursday morning session options (9 - 11:30am)
The Opposite of Cheating
presented by David Rettinger and Tricia Bertram Gallant
This workshop equips educators to thoughtfully integrate AI into teaching while promoting academic integrity through authentic learning. Participants will explore why students cheat, examine AI’s impact on assessment, and develop practical strategies—guided by experts and peer collaboration—to foster ethical learning environments and revise assignments for the AI era.
Level Up Your Academic Integrity Training
presented by Sharon Holderman
This interactive workshop is for individuals creating or updating an academic integrity training plan. Attendees will engage in group discussions and hands-on activities to explore essential elements such as setting effective goals, understanding diverse audiences, selecting and refining training topics, choosing appropriate delivery methods, acquiring buy-in, and developing assessment strategies. Practical worksheets and peer collaboration will help participants tailor each component to their specific organization. By the end of the session, attendees will leave with concrete ideas and tools to build or enhance their academic integrity training programs.
Thursday afternoon session options (1:30 - 4pm)
Ctrl+Alt+Ethics: Rethinking Writing in the Age of AI
presented by Emily Perkins
Generative AI is changing how students write—and how we think about writing. In this hands-on session, we’ll explore real examples of student and AI-generated work, talk through the challenges of detecting AI use, and consider what ethical, supportive responses might look like. Together, we’ll unpack how tools like ChatGPT are showing up in our classrooms and how we can guide students toward thoughtful, responsible choices in a world where the lines between human and machine writing are increasingly blurred.
Assessing Academic Integrity
presented by Courtney Cullen
This workshop will help attendees develop an assessment plan for their academic integrity units by reviewing the assessment cycle. This includes developing student learning and administrative outcomes, finding appropriate measures, practice reporting and analyzing results, and utilizing the results for continuous improvement. In addition, discussions centering the use of the ICAI Assessment Guide as part of on-going assessment process will be included as a measure available for member institutions.
